Desert Background research

Some initial designs. I did these pretty quickly and I'm not very happy with them. But have given me some basic idea of composition.

I decided to look at dali for some inspiration for painting the desert

Dali always makes the sky very large compared to the ground. Which in the desert it is actually like. He also uses really nice saturated strong colour palettes.

Ben Lo Concept artisit for "Bioshock Infinite"

So I have just started playing this game and to be honest I am much more interested at the aesthetics at the moment the the actual game. The colours are amazing, saturated "heavenly" gold feel. The details are incredible in the game.

You can really see where the game got the look and feel from the concept are of Ben Lo Blog: http://benlo0.blogspot.co.uk/

Rough intro storyboard draft

I had an idea in my head of how we could introduce the coast guard dogs. So I just quickly drew it out. My idea is to show dogs doing doggy things with the captain getting angry at them as they are trying to take a photo for the newspaper on the story that he is about to tell us.

Dear Nana Maya Assets

So I've been helping out making so Maya assets for  Lydia Foster's Third year final film called "Dear Nana" (Blog:http://lydiapaige.tumblr.com/).
It's nothing big, just UV wrapping textures. As I have never done this before and I don't feel to confident on maya Lydia sent me a step by step tutorial and it was really nice and easy to follow. She gave me just a few curves to work with to start me off. These are for a table in a van.

I'm still very much a beginner but I'm getting to grips with it.

Minerals

So I came across some cross sections of minerals at the Natural history museum and thought they would be brilliant to use as colour palets.

Dior exhibition at Harrods.

So I stumbled across this when trying to get to the toy section in harrods Wasn't to bothered about the clothes..tho they were nice. The mini exhibition had some interesting visuals tho with film being projected onto massive bags and massive chairs so it was actually pretty interesting.

But this is what I liked the most

WAR HORSE: INSIDE THE HORSE

So this easter I popped to a little talk by Associate Puppetry Director Tommy Luther. He explained the process of how this spectacular and ingenious show was developed - from original concept, through workshops, to first performances, and then to productions around the world.

It was a really interesting talk and we got a close up look at the actual horses and how the puppetry works with them.

One thhing he mentioned a lot was putting breath into your character  He used and example of a simple paper puppet, by making it look like it's breathing we immediately  believe it's alive.

He also explained the different horse runs, 1step, 3 step, 4 step etc. so walk, canter, gallop. And actually did them on his four legs infront of him, pretty amusing.

He also taught us the different horse sounds. the three puppets moving the horses mak these noises and each different puppeteer has a different noise. The fact that horses ungs are 3X the size of humans the fact they have three people making these sounds make it very realistic.

What I found the most interesting part of the talk was how they made the puppet. a lot of health a saftey went into them as people had to hold it up and move it around for hour.

The small little things the horse does makes it seem more and more realistic e.g when you stroke he puppet the puppeteer makes it look like the skin vibrates to the touch.
