Easter Holiday Brain Dump

Ok so I have been off for easter for about 2 weeks-ish now and got some work done. But not much (this week will be a whole different kettle of fish. (is that the saying , god knows) anyway this is what i've been up to the past couple of days.

just a random skeleton drawing that I will finish tomorrow, ink and water.

working with some aerial perspective. Pretty quick 20min drawing of a view in falmouth.

These are some "puppets" i've made for an experimentel animation test.

Troubleshooting

As my group is a pretty small group simple is what we want to go for.
Working with the piece of narration is actually pretty hard and we are having a lot of lipsync. So i've been looking more at animation that uses lip sync and narration that's not just creature comforts.

and The Ricky Gervais show are some good examples of what i'm trying to aim at. A lot of single frame with lipsync but then cuts to some action.

At the moment I am also still trying to work on the look and design of the animation. Just messing around and experimenting with some ideas.

some new character concepts

I'm trying to make the dog more "dog like" yet simple enough to animate. Here I am just experimenting with line, shade and colour. I also need to look more at other dogs and how they are life guards. I am also going to do some background design. We have all agreed to keep it a simple colour scheme with line drawing so now I just need to work out a style.

Background layers

I drew a background and separated into layers that I will be putting into toonboom to create a 3d plane. Taken from the comic X'ed out.

Trying to work rescue stories out

'm trying to find background ideas for rescue stories for when the dog is talking. I've taken creature comforts as a big inspiration for this. Here are my few rough ideas. At the moment I am thinking about a setting in Kennels, outside the boat or just in a room.

I've also thought a lot about making the whole crew dogs so i've looked at quite a few dog breeds. These are the ones I thought would work well together.

Character research

Working from the feedback given to my group we were told to either make the dogs more dog like or more human and push it.

It really made me think about this video.

My team also have to show Kathy more design work this friday so I'm doing some research as to where to place the dog when he is talking. I've looked a lot at creature comforts for this as they always seem to link the dog into the background.

First Animatic for "Rescue stories"

So me and Alan took it in turns to get the storyboard done.. we got it done pretty quickly with a few tweaks here and there but I tink we got our general idea through.

I put together the animatic tonight.. have a peak

Dereks feedback in bullet points:
- Don't use to many fancy camera angles. (e.g zoom in on the dog it doesn't need it)
- think about having a full doggy crew
- coxans held by collars when floating off
- get humour out of different types of dogs (big bloodhound for main guy and two smaller annoying dogs at the coxans.
- bowl spilling when talking about freak wave
-think about dog behaviours
-doggy world differences (e.g collar as restraining belt)
-do many more dog designs make it more animal or more human.
